The Chancel Choir at First Presbyterian is comprised of singers who believe in the tradition of sacred choral music as an integral part of worship life. Our choir is extremely dedicated to its role of enhancing the worship experience week after week by offering anthems to enrich the spirit and soul and to help deepen the Christian experience. Our “mini sermons” range from spirituals to classical masterworks and gospel arrangements.
The choir enjoys rehearsals as much as the anthem presentations within the service. It is a group that deeply cares for one another and its church family. The choir presents larger length programs at Easter and Christmas. Much of the time, additional instrumentalists are utilized. This is the fourth year we have presented a themed program in the fall. Most of these programs are comprised of additional invited singers and provides a broader community outreach.
The choir rehearses on Wednesday evenings from 7:00 to 8:30 p.m. The themed program rehearsals normally occur on Sunday afternoons. Historically, the choir does not sing in July.
All volunteer singers are accepted into the choir regardless of musical proficiency. The ability to match pitch is the only requirement to participate. Even singers with limited musical experience can thrive in our program. A willingness to actively participate in regular rehearsals is highly encouraged. Individual concerns and praises are an important facet of our prayer time. We subscribe, in the words of Mother Teresa, “to do no great things, but rather to do small things with great love”.
