Music

The music program of First Presbyterian has expanded and evolved recently. Robert Thurman returned to the church as Organist/Choirmaster in February of 2009.  He previously served the church for 6 years in the same capacity in the 1990's.  He has been a choir director for over 37 years.  The Chancel Choir is the primary vocal group in the church's music program.  It is a growing group! They sing year-round at every 10:30 Sunday service.  They rehearse each Wednesday evening at either 7:00 or 7:30, dependent on the timing of Wednesday Night Together (WNT) programs and meals.  The choir prepares music of many different genre's, ranging from the classics to contemporary styles.  They sing specific holiday programs for the Easter and Chrismas seasons.  The Choir is open to anyone who can match pitch.  Of course, some musical background  is beneficial, but is not absolutely required.   As a supplement and for a couple times a month, some of the younger youth will be coming together during the Sunday School hour to form a choir that will  sing during a church service and/or for the holiday service later in the year.  If you have questions about the music programs of the church, please feel free to contact Robert at 615-417-3619.
